Unique Student Identifier

A secure online record of your nationally recognised training.

In April 2012, the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) agreed to the implementation of a specially designed tool called the Unique Student Identifier (USI) to provide all students in Australia with the ability to obtain a complete record of their Vocational Education and Training (VET) enrolments and achievements from a single source.

Effective from 1 January 2015, all students enrolled in nationally recognised training, will be required to provide their registered training organisation (RTO) with their USI. Registering for a USI is simple and the registration process is available online and at no cost to the student. This USI will stay with the student for life and be recorded with any nationally recognised VET course that is undertaken.

Students can now create a USI by following the process below: You will receive an email back with your USI.

  1. Log on to http://portal.usi.gov.au/student
  2. When applying for a USI, students will be required to supply one of the following valid Australian forms of ID:
  • Driver’s Licence
  • Medicare Card
  • Australian Passport
  • Visa (with Non-Australian Passport)
  • Birth Certificate (Australian)
  • Certificate of Registration by Descent
  • Citizenship Certificate

Legislation prohibits an RTO from issuing a Certificate/Statement of Attainment to a student without a verified USI. All students undertaking training will be advised to bring their USI to the training course so this information can be entered into the Student Management System and will reduce the hold up with Certificate/Statements of Attainment being issued.

Visit the Australian Government USI website for more information.

Recognition Of Prior Learning

We recognise what you already know.

Coex training will recognise any qualifications within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), and Statements of Attainment provided by any other Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Recognition means that other RTOs will recognise your qualifications issued by Coex Training.

Recognition of prior learning allows you to apply recognition previous study, work and/or life experiences that match the learning outcomes of specific units within your course. You can apply for RPL for a single unit or for a whole course. To apply for recognition of prior learning , you will need to provide evidence to prove that your prior learning is valid, sufficient, authentic and current.

Why choose RPL?

  • Save time from having to study what you already know
  • Save money from having to buy textbooks and other learning material
  • Complete your qualification in a shorter time
  • Advance to a higher level qualification sooner

Participants who have Qualifications (with associated records of results or academic transcripts) and/or Statements of Attainment may request to have these recognised under credit transfer arrangements. Participants requesting credit transfer are required to complete a Credit Transfer Form and submit certified copies of the Qualification and/or Statement of Attainment. These must contain the training package code, unit of competency code and name, and the RTO registration number.

Credit Transfer applications will be reviewed and awarded accordingly if there are any concerns with this Credit Transfer you will be contacted within a 14 day timeframe by Coex Training and be notified the reasons of the outcome.
